Pinecone is a striking outdoor pavilion concept that blends sculptural design with practical shelter. The self-supporting Pinecone structure is formed by 109 overlapping scales arranged in seven rows; the mutual rotation of the layers produces an airy dome that creates a comfortable microclimate and excellent acoustic qualities. Pinecone provides effective shelter from sun, wind and rain while offering a welcoming circular seating arrangement around its perimeter and the option to add a top dome skylight for daylighting.
The Pinecone scales are made from waterproof plywood treated with a durable varnish and connected using galvanized steel joints and bolts. The lower row of scales is anchored to a steel base frame with adjustable feet, set on a concrete foundation. This robust yet modular approach makes Pinecone transportable and straightforward to assemble — a complete installation can be built in a single day. Optional accessories include ambient LED lighting and a top dome skylight to enhance atmosphere and usability in evening conditions.
