The Oberlin College is a leading national educational institution and sets high standards in terms of environmental soundness. The Gateway Center also includes a campus hotel. For the facade, the architects at Solomon Cordwell and Buenz opted for the sustainable öko skin slats in terracotta. The surfaces were sandblasted to different degrees, creating an interesting play of colours.

The outer shell, made of glass fibre reinforced concrete, features six shades of red that blend harmoniously with the historic clinker brick buildings of the Hanseatic city.
