Erwan and Ronan Bouroullec have come up with a completely new roller blind system for Kvadrat Shade, the latest brand by Danish textiles expert Kvadrat. In this interview, Erwan Bouroullec explains to us the design concept behind it.

Stefan Diez developed a concept for the Kvadrat exhibition stand during imm cologne 2020 that encloses it with a swirling umbrella-like structure. The main role in his ingenious design is played by Alfredo Häberli’s new fabric “Nitto”.

Designer Karina Nielsen Rios teamed up with Kvadrat to develop the outdoor fabric “Patio”, which is both sturdy and environmentally friendly. And it looks good into the bargain.

With “Twill Weave” Jonathan Olivares teams up with Kvadrat to forge an intricate link from past to the present, from architecture to fabric. By contrast, in her installation for Kinnasand Katrin Greiling does not so much emphasize the narrative as the pure sensation of textiles.

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec not only dream up textile designs for Kvadrat. They have also for the second time designed the label’s Copenhagen flagship showroom.

Whether it’s for premium loudspeakers, SUVs or classic sneakers – the fabrics from Danish textile label Kvadrat are ever more frequently a sales argument for luxury products.
